Canary Announces a One Million Dollar Equipment Campaign - Supporter pledges $500,000 Match Gift

Canary Center at Stanford for Cancer Early Detection is the only center in the world that integrates both blood and imaging-based diagnostic research. The Center will advance Canary's two-test process of finding cancer through a blood test and pinpointing its location through molecular imaging when it is small and before it has spread. In addition, the Center supports multiple full-time faculty dedicated to early detection. Over time there will be more than 100 research affiliates.

Since our founding in 2004, Canary Foundation has partnered with leading institutions in North America to build a network of scientific teams operating as a virtual institute. While the virtual model has been effective, an opportunity to take our program to the next level presented itself in the form of a strategic partnership with the Stanford University School of Medicine, the Stanford Department of Radiology, and the Stanford Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The Center, a Stanford University program for which Canary Foundation provides support, is comprised of "cores," including one each in chemistry, proteomics, molecular/cell biology, and bioinformatics.

Canary currently has programs in the areas of ovary, prostate, lung, and pancreas with a goal of delivering early detection tests for solid tumor cancers by 2015. The work of the Center will focus on validation of biomarkers and clinical trials. Canary Foundation raises funds through an annual program towards its support of the Canary Center at Stanford.

Most recently, a supporter of Canary Foundation pledged to contribute $500,000 towards a $1 million campaign for the next phase of equipment necessary to support Canary Center at Stanford research. As we continue to gather the best of minds in early detection cancer research, we ask you to help us equip them with the necessary tools to achieve our ultimate goal.
