The ten teams competing in the Fifth Annual Victoria Canary Derby raised CAD$85,500 for the early detection of cancer. The 2010 Derby was held on a sunny Saturday, June 12 at Vancouver Island Technology Park. Canary's annual Canary Derby helps fund research by bringing together the technology and business communities of Victoria and Vancouver, Canary Foundation of Canada, and BC Cancer Foundation to help support early detection cancer research.
Teams at the event included: GenoLogics, Aquatic Informatics, Carmanah Technologies, Vifor Pharma, Vancouver Island Technology Park, Camosun College, Schneider Electric, JASCO Applied Sciences, Neverblue, and BC Cancer Agency. GenoLogics took the cup for the Canary Style category with their Transformers inspired team. In the Canary Speed category, Schneider Electric went home with the first place trophy, barreling down the track at 43km/h. The top three fundraising teams were Carmanah Technologies, GenoLogics, and Schneider Electric with total fundraising among the three reaching CAD$29,583.
Walt Nicholson, Race Director, was awarded the Volunteer Award for his consistent contribution to the Derby. For five years, he has made the race what it is today — an exciting spectacle to both participants and viewers.
